You would think that in the middle of a city that the main railway station would be a busy place. Hmm – well not in Kansas City Missouri ( the locals get quite pedantic about tacking the Missouri part on ). It’s a beautifully restored old building – here’s what it looks like at 4.30 in the afternoon……

Where ARE all the people ????
Maybe they were all scared away by this fellow who resides in the foyer and is the first thing you see when you walk in the door.

Well if anyone should happen to walk in the door – that is.

People become artists in many different ways and for varying reasons. Some of us are pushed into it while others, like my self for instance almost take it up by default. What ever the reason, once you are a short way down that track, my advice in hindsight, which is of course a wonderful thing, is to stop and take a look at where you are going. Here are some thoughts to consider:
- Why am I doing this?
- Do I really want to be an artist or to continue being one? On a scale of 1-10 how important is it?
- What does being an artist really mean to me?
- What are some of the qualities a successful artist needs to have, and do I have them?
I believe that these thoughts are useful to us at any stage of our artistic career in fact and serve us well if we ask them at least once a year.

Train stations are hardly the place you expect to find willowy silhouettes, yet Central Union Station in Kansas City Missouri gives us food for reflection.

Kansas City Missouri – is about as different from Sydney as chalk and cheese. I must say my impression of the US from afar was that all cities are seething metropolises with many people busily going about their business. You can imagine my astonishment then at the scene in the following photo. This was taken in the central business district in the middle of the afternoon during the week.

Where Are All The People!!
Well they aren’t here either! But you can see the cool entertainment centre in the background. Not sure who gets entertained though…..
