There is a fascinating tree growing outside our front door. It thinks it is autumn but really it is spring. Underneath it, on the grass yesterday, I found this beautiful leaf .
Last weekend I went to our local art house theatre -
Avoca Beach Picture Theatre
to see a New Zealand movie Boy, by director, Taika Waititi. If you get the chance do go and take a look – the first half was hilarious – a real spoof on a young boy’s rite of passage and his ‘heroic’ father. Of course I loved seeing the New Zealand countryside so would have liked the movie just for that anyway. I went with an Australian gal and she laughed as hard as I did, so I don’t think that being a Kiwi is a pre-requisite to enjoying this film. There are also some very poignant moments, that remind us of our own childhoods as we watch them through the eyes of a sometimes disillusioned adult.
James Rolleston gives a wonderful performance for an 11yr old kid.
There’s something special about sailing ships I think. They often catch my eye when I’m out and about. This one certainly did when I was in Kansas recently.
Sailing the calm blue ocean
