It is October and Gosford Art Prize time again at the Gosford Regional Gallery. It runs from the 29th September to the 25th of November, so there is still plenty of time to get down and see it. This year the standard seems to have reached a new high. The winning work, After Fire by Lezlie Tilley is quite extraordinary. I can’t even begin to imagine how many hours of work went into it.
As you all know art is totally subjective and what one person enjoys another doesn’t. The winner was not my favourite however I totally acknowledge the skill it was painted with – awesome! And having said that I does kind of grow on you the more you look at it…… a bit like some music you hear.
One of my favourites was this giant flower painting by Craig Waddell. Lots of glorious thick paint.
As you can see from the works below – there are some really interesting paintings in this year’s selections.
And don’t forget to check out the photos, digital works and sculpture in the foyer gallery.
This Weeks Question: What was the last exhibition you went to and what inspiration did you take away from it?
